Ozamiz local gov’t vows continuous support, relief assistance for flooded residents
OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental--Families affected by the flooding in Ozamiz City received relief assistance from the local government office.
Ozamiz Mayor Henry "Indy" Oaminal Jr., represented by Vice Mayor Simplicia “Bebe” Neri, recently led the distribution of food items and other needs of flood-affected residents in various villages in the city.
The rescue teams from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Ozamiz City Police personnel and Ozamiz Maritime Police Station were able to rescue and assist the flooded residents from barangays of Maningcol, Doña Consuelo, San Antonio, and Pulot, of Ozamiz City.
Affected residents were safely housed in an evacuation center at Ozamiz City Gym.
Vice Mayor Neri visited the flood victims and reiterated the city government’s commitment to assisting families affected by the flooding due to the persistent pouring of heavy rains brought by the low-pressure area.
“Bisan paman sa atong kahimtang karon, ang atong mga kadagkoan sa probinsya, sa distrito ug ingon man sa atong shudad sa Ozamiz naningkamot ug nagkahiusa nga makahatag bisan paman sa ginagmay lang,” the vice mayor uttered.
“Let us all be courageous. Mag-ampo gyud ta taliwala sa atong kapit-os ug taliwala niini atong kahimtang,” she added.
The evacuees were also provided with health and medical assistance by the Ozamiz City Health Office.
Data from the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) showed that some 164 families or 659 individuals, residing in barangays of Maningcol, Bacolod, Pulot, Malaubang, and Lam-an have already back to their homes as the flood already subsided in their areas.
