MisOcc gov’t, DSWD implement Enhanced Support Services Intervention for IPs
TUDELA, Misamis Occidental--The provincial government of Misamis Occidental has highlighted the need to push a more comprehensive approach catering to the concerns of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the province.
Hence, the Misamis Occidental government has partnered with
the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to implement Php
4.5 million worth of livelihood assistance for IPs residing in the province’s
six municipalities.
Under the Enhanced Support Services Intervention (ESSI) for
IPs, the provincial government started the distribution of livelihood
assistance to a total of 1,144 beneficiaries on Thursday at the Working
Congressman Sports and Cultural Center in Tudela town.
Among the ESSI beneficiaries are 236 individuals from
Clarin, 344 from Don Victoriano, 43 from Jimenez, 158 from Panoan, 22 from
Sinacaban, and 341 from Tudela.
Each beneficiary is contracted to work for 11 days in
exchange for compensation that will be computed based on the 2023 regional
daily wage rate.
The implementation of ESSI is aimed at providing
supplementary support to the beneficiaries for their basic needs and helping
them recover from the impact of poverty.
The ESSI also serves as an extension program of the Pantawid
Pamilyang Pilipino Program (English: Bridging Program for the Filipino
Family), also known as 4Ps, which prioritizes the provision of social welfare
assistance to homeless families, vulnerable groups, farmers, fisherfolks,
individuals in crisis situations, and IPs.
The program is also aligned with initiatives of the “Asenso
administration of Governor Oaminal” to push more transformative solutions that
will help empower IPs and 4Ps beneficiaries to improve their lives. (SN/PGMO)
