MisOcc’s newly elected SK officials train on good governance 5Ms agenda

 

The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-MisOcc and 17 municipal and city governments, trains a total of 490 newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons in the province of Misamis Occidental. 


TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental --Some 490 newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons in the province of Misamis Occidental completed the 4-day training on good governance and crafting of substantial local legislation.

The training was integrated into the provincial government’s push for Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon (5Ms) program. 

The training, which was organized by Misamis Occidental together with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), in partnership with local government units, was recently held in Tangub City on Nov. 17 to 20. 

Working Governor Henry S. Oaminal initiated the 4-day training for the newly elected young leaders in a bid to promote a much-needed honing of their abilities in crafting substantial legislations that are appropriately designed for the youth sector. 

“Today, it is not only mere compliance of the law but it is a sincere compliance para makab-ot ang intention sa balaod ug unsa man ang intention sa balaod nga kamong kabatan-onan mamahimong partner, ang inyong wisdom kinahanglan nga inyong ma-exercise, partner sa inyong mga local officials ug sa inyong gobernador para makab-ot nato ang maong katoyuan ug dire sa atong probinsya atong makab-ot ang atong vission nga Asenso Misamis Occidental pinaagi sa usa ka development thrust program nato nga mao ang 5Ms; Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon,” the governor said in hir remarks.

Gov. Oaminal has emphasized the importance of providing genuine public service so that leaders can make a positive impact in a certain community.

Meanwhile, DILG-MisOcc Provincial Director and Training Director, Pablio Benitez Jr., underscored the need for the youth sector to be heard in terms of legislation affecting the younger generations.

"Amo mong tabangan aron nga matuman ang inyong gipangandoy ug gidamgo para sa inyohang tagsa-tagsa ka mga kabatan-onan sa inyong barangay (We will help each and everyone of you to fulfill your wishes and dreams for youth in your respective barangays),” Benitez said. 

“Once you will assume office, you are no longer an ordinary citizen but you are considered public official and as a public official,” he continued. 

Benitez also stressed the need to instill in young leaders the code of conduct and ethical standards of good governance which they can also replicate to their fellow youth in their villages. 

Training includes various modules or sessions to apprise the new SK officials on Philippine History, Misamis Occidental History, Poverty, Peace and Order, Nationalism, Role of the Youth in Nation Building, Community Development, KB-SK History-Salient Features, Value Based Leadership, Responsible Stewardship, Team Building Activities and Collaboration, Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards, Communication Skills Development, Decentralization and Local Governance, Parliamentary Rules and Procedures, Meeting and Resolutions, Youth Development Program, Provincial Development Program, 5Ms cascading, Planning-Budgeting, City and Municipal Action Plan and Synthesis/ Hands Misamisnon Administrative.

The provincial government said the training also targets “to foster meaningful youth participation in local governance, instilling values such as patriotism and nationalism.”(SN/PGMO)


The newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons in the province of Misamis Occidental successfully completed the 4-day training through the effort and initiative of Governor Henry Oaminal held at Tangub City, November 17-20, 2023.
