House reso seeks inquiry on recent assassination attempt vs. MisOcc guv
Misamis Occidental 2nd District Representative Sancho Fernando "Ando" Oaminal has urged the House of Representatives to conduct an investigation into the "series of assassination attempts" against the governor of his hometown province.
The House Resolution No. 1401, co-introduced by Cong.
Oaminal and Cong. Jason Paredes Almonte, directing an appropriate committee to
conduct an inquiry over the killing attempt of Misamis Occidental Governor
Henry S. Oaminal on Oct. 15 at Brgy. Lapasan in Clarin, Misamis Occidental.
The resolution stated that the governor, along with his
entourage, was en route to his residence after attending an official engagement
in Clarin when an improvised explosive device (IED) suddenly exploded.
The governor’s convoy vehicle was hit by the IED shrapnels.
This was not the first that the governor was assassinated.
Also, stated in the resolution the previous attack against Gov. Oaminal which
took place in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental last Dec. 22, 2021, months ahead
of the 2022 local and national elections.
A sniper fired at the governor while he was delivering his
message during a Christmas event in the city. Oaminal, who was then seeking a
gubernatorial post missed the sniper’s shot instead his running mate, former
mayor Michael Gutierrez, was shot dead while two other guests present in the
gathering were injured after the firing incident.
The resolution noted that the suspects in the said shooting
incident were still unidentified and the case remained unsolved.
Hence, the resolution seeks to halt any future attempt to
flourish anew political killing incidents in Misamis Occidental. (SN/PGMO)
