Gov. Oaminal condemns killing of radioman on duty, orders probe other inhumane atrocities in MisOcc
“I am disheartened and I am in grief, as I denounce in the
strongest terms, the untimely death of radioman Juan Jumalon alias Johnny
Walker who was brutally killed while doing his media work,” Oaminal said in a
statement on Sunday.
The victim was shot to death by an unidentified man at
5:35 a.m. on November 5 inside an
announcer’s booth located within his residence at Purok 2, Brgy. Don Bernardo
A. Neri in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
The suspect immediately ran away in an unknown direction
after shooting the radioman. He also took away Jumalon’s necklace after firing
a gun against the victim.
Jumalon was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The governor has ordered the police authorities in the
province to look into the inhumane incident, immediately.
“I am ordering Provincial Police Director Col. Dwight Monato
to leave no stone unturned in the investigation of this case,” he said.
Amid the incident involving a radioman, Oaminal also urged
the security forces to probe the series of barbaric incidents recently recorded
in the province.
“I also request PRO10 Regional Director Gen. Ricardo Layug
to investigate the Jumalon case and all other cases of atrocities in Misamis
Occidental like the Oct. 15 IED explosion in Clarin which hit my convoy; Oct.
23 shooting of Calamba Municipal Engr. Jopson Baones; Oct. 28 grenade throwing
at the house of Calamba Mayor Villanueva,” Oaminal further stated.
“I trust that truth will prevail and justice will be
served,” he added.
Oaminal, meanwhile, urged the people of Misamis Occidental
to continue being vigilant and “unite to protect each other as one people.”
“We will rise above all these challenges of our time,” he
said.
The provincial police personnel are currently conducting a
dragnet operation against Jumalon’s killer. (SN/PGMO)
